Dreams (Conception)
My sometimes fear of intimacy has inspired this work. I hope viewers will think of the times when their greatest fears have come true, but they have faced them down to overcome. Thinking of how the fear that anticipated the fact was great, but the reality, once endured, was not frightening at all to experience. I hope you will be inspired to think of how it feels to have anxiety (about anything) and then endure it until the end. The fear of getting too close to other people has often bothered me. I depict my fear with this painting as a reminder that fears, for the most part, are imaginary like bad dreams. I chose this subject matter because I think that a mind, when repressed, will eventually linger on the darker aspects of its own imagination. I have tried to represent that repressed fear here, in abstract expression.
Jumbled Anger
It is a symphony of disharmony that you see in life and react-to. You place your anger into work that you think is constructive but it is only an outlet where your negative emotion can be safely managed. You are discontent but you don't know what is the cause behind such feelings. It is fine for you to be angry as long as your expression of anger remains in the abstract and does not represent reality. In your reality, you are presented with so many conundrums that you eventually select apathy as a safe outlet because your anger produces nothing of value to you, only a jumbled mess.
The Act of Drawing
Piece by piece in process. Viewpoints are connected, however, by a kind of structure that is a series of meaningful lines. As upon the line, balance is found. A precipice of the soft and sensuous against the acute and angular, the real against imagined, the past versus the present, and dimension against dimension. Coherence is found in the dimensions that line creates. It flows from one structure into another and then into a multiplicity.
The Whole is Something Other
In my process of creating the totality of the image, I am not fully aware of the whole of this vision, but working within parts. Like the parts of a human face, or the parts of a machine. This structure is a series of interconnections from one segment to another. The whole becomes realised as the parts come together. However, I never had a complete vision until those parts fully came together at the very end of the process.
